Department's Bachelor of Science Program Receives ABET Accreditation

The Department of Computer and Information Sciences is pleased to announce that it has received its first ever accreditation from ABET (for more information, please see www.abet.org), the national accreditation organization for Engineering and Computer Science programs at the post-secondary level. Accreditation of the program is effective with degrees conferred after October 1, 2005.

Quoting the ABET web site: "ABET accreditation is assurance that a college or university  program meets the quality standards established by the profession for which it prepares its students. ... An accredited computer science program must meet the quality standards set by the computing profession."

ABET has accredited the Bachelor of Science program in Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Again, quoting from the ABET site: "ABET accredits programs, not departments, degrees, colleges, or institutions."   The Faculty and Staff of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences is pleased to have achieved this milestone, a quality process which continues now and in the future to ensure quality and meeting national norms in our Bachelor of Science program in Computer and Information Sciences.
