Data Reorganization

The DARPA Data Reorganization Effort, funded by the Information Technology Office (ITO) under BAA9706 (Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. is the prime contractor; MPI Software Technology, Inc. was a subcontractor), is a focused effort aimed at providing specific attention on the problem of data reorganization in High Performance Computing, with some special emphasis on embedded High Performance Computing. In particular efforts to examine Application Programmer Interfaces (APIs), algorithms, and application requirements are in scope. Both "transpose" and "reshape" issues are in scope; both clique and bi-partite redistribution is in scope.

This reflector serves as a meeting place for information about the meetings, discussion that goes on during the period of meetings, and a repository for pertinent related information about the data reorganization problem, and technologies to support its solution, including links to research and results outside the working group. An open series of meetings will culminate in a report that offers specific recommendations, results, and linkages to other standards, such as the MPI/RT Forum, the MPI Forum, the VSIP Forum, DISA COE, and TASP DSP COE.

This site is being brought out of "moth balls" right now. It has 2001-2002 material on it, which is still relevant to this de-facto standard. The collective communications technologies here may provide significant input to such emerging standards as MPI-3 (see also working documents).

The VSIPL++ effort drew some inspiration from ths effort as well (see VSIPL Standard Home, and Original VSIPL pages).
