CIS Professor to Speak at XO Expo at McWane Center

Ritu Arora Presenting Poster at OOPSLA 2008

2009 AOSD Conference Organized by Two SoftCom Members

The 2009 AOSD conference will be organized by two SoftCom members. Dr. Jeff Gray is serving as Organizing Chair and PhD student Robert Tairas is the webmaster for the conference and also the primary AOSD website.

CIS Summer Camps a Big Success

Graduate Team Wins CIS Jeopardy Showdown

FBI Estimates 2.5 Million Computers Part of Botnets

The FBI recently announced that their estimates show that 2.5 million computers are now part of botnets.

UAB CIS students win awards at ACM MidSoutheast Conference

Four CIS students presented their research at the ACM MidSoutheast Conference in Gatlinburg, TN. Among these participants, two student presentations were selected to win top awards for their categories. This success also marks the fifth year in a row that a UAB CIS undergraduate placed in the top three for their category.

Competitive Programming Team Conquers State of Alabama

On October 13th the UAB CIS Competitive Programming teams placed 1st and 3rd at their contest site for the ACM International Computer Programming Competition, beating all other schools in Alabama and Mississippi and producing UAB's best-ever finish in the Southeast region overall.

CS Grad Starting Salaries Continue to Rise

The latest figures show that CS graduates are averaging a starting salary of $53,051 nationally, and that employers are having a hard time filling vacancies.  Both news items bode well for students currently pursuing computer science degrees.<p>


NSF funds Microarray Research Project in CIS Department

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded the Computer and Information Sciences department a three year research grant that will support the development of a comprehensive data and information management environment for microarray image analysis and microarray data mining from multi-modalities such as images and literatures.

Department's Bachelor of Science Program Receives ABET Accreditation

Doctoral Student Vetria Byrd Featured in UAB Publication

2007 ACM Membership Drive

Large Outreach Effort Funded by NSF

UAB was just awarded a $1,080,000 grant to introduce high school students to concepts in computer science and provide them with a mathematics foundation for IT-related education and careers.

NSF Funds New Research Project in CIS Department

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded another research grant to the CIS Department. This three year grant will support research into the analysis and refactoring of code clones, which presents a source of maintenance and evolution challenges.
